46th Pan-European Days in Hof

Paneuropa-Union Germany in cooperation with the Paneuropa-Union in the Czech Republic organised the 46th Pan-European Days from 17 to 19 July 2020.

The congress took place under the title ‘After the crisis - new strength for Europe’ in four cities and two countries: Hof, Waldsassen, Eger and Franzensbad.

On the German side, these were the Upper Franconian town of Hof in the Bavarian Vogtland region and the Upper Palatinate town of Waldsassen in the historic Stiftland region; on the Czech side, the former Free Imperial City of Cheb and the Bohemian town of Františkovy Lázně, one of the world spas of the Habsburg monarchy.

All four communities suffered under the Iron Curtain until a good 30 years ago - Hof is 12 kilometres from the former GDR zone border, and barbed wire and minefields also dominated between Waldsassen and its neighbours in the Egerland until the Pan-European Picnic. Today, Europe is growing together across the former dividing lines in this fascinating cultural landscape of the Euregio Egrensis. It was the ideal place to think about a new start to European unification under Corona conditions.
